Twin

Twin Size Mattress Dimensions: 38" x 75"

Twin Size Mattress Dimensions: 38" x 75" | Puffy

Twin mattress are one of the most popular sizes for children who are too big to fit in a baby bed and too small to justify a full-sized bed. Twin mattresses are commonly used in bunk beds, as well. Check out the Puffy Lux Twin Mattress.

They are also quite common with single sleepers who are smaller in size, guest rooms, and college dorm rooms. Because of its convenient size, it is often used in houses and rooms with limited space to spare, such as studio apartments.

Twin mattress dimensions feature 75 inches of length, making it suitable for average to below-average height adults. To adequately fit a twin bed, you should be working with a minimum of 7 x 10 feet of space in a room.

Twin XL

Twin XL Size Mattress Dimensions: 38" x 80"

Twin XL Size Mattress Dimensions: 38" x 80" | Puffy

Twin XL mattresses bed dimensions are exactly the same as twin beds, except they are exactly 5 inches longer, making it a more suitable choice for taller individuals who sleep alone. They are even used in guest bedrooms as a king mattress by putting two different twin XL beds together.

A twin XL bed is even more suitable for college life than regular twin bed mattresses are, as the extra length goes a long way (pun intended) for increasing legroom. It is recommended that you have a minimum of 7.5 x 10 feet of space in your room to be able to fit a twin XL comfortably. Check out the Puffy Lux Twin XL Mattress.

Full Size Mattress Dimensions: 54" x 75"

Full Size Mattress

You may be curious as to why we don’t refer to our full size mattress as “double” beds - a common practice in the mattress industry. While the term double infers that the bed is double the width of a conventional twin bed, it is, in fact, only 15 inches wider. Check out the Puffy Lux Full Size Mattress.

Full bed dimensions are ideal for single sleepers looking for a little more space to stretch out in their bed than what they would be getting on a twin. It is also a viable choice for guest rooms, children/teenagers who do not have enough room for a queen bed, and couples who are ok with 27 inches of width each (involuntary snuggling is inevitable).

Queen

Queen Size Mattress Dimensions: 60" x 80"

Queen Size Mattress

Queen mattresses are the most popular mattress sizes sold in the U.S. - an accolade that can be attributed to several different factors. They are the standard for couples as the 60 inches of width provide sufficient space for each of the sleepers to be comfortable; it should also be noted that the length should not be an issue even for the taller individuals as it is a standard 80 inches long. Check out the Puffy Lux Queen Mattress.

Queen size bed is also a favorite dimension for single adults who prefer to stretch out and for those who may be naturally inclined to move about while they sleep. Queen size mattress dimensions are often too large for rooms that are less than 10 x 10 feet in size, so it is recommended that you accurately measure your room if you think you are cutting things close. It's also wonderful to pair it with a queen size blanket.

King

King Size Mattress Dimensions: 76" x 80"

King Size Mattress

Upgrading from a queen to a king bed will get you an extra 16 inches of width, meaning couples can expect to have plenty of space to sprawl out and relax - you would even have room for a pet to join you!

King size mattress dimensions are deceivingly large. There have been many reported cases of individuals buying a bed without measuring their room, only to return it later because it could not fit. The last thing you want is to regret your mattress purchases, so it’s worth noting that king size mattress are usually reserved for a spacious master bedroom - it is recommended that you have a room with a minimum of 10 x 12 feet in size. It’s also important to ensure that your room is big enough to accommodate a large king size bed and your bedroom furniture. Check out the Puffy Lux King Mattress.

California King

California King Size Mattress Dimensions: 72" x 84"

California King Size Mattress

California king size mattresses are quite similar to the standard king, with the only differences being 4 inches less width and 4 inches more length. It still provides the perfect conditions for a couple that requires more space than a queen bed has to offer. In addition, California king mattresses provide more comfort for a taller sleeper who needs a few extra inches to the length.

California king bed dimensions are the longest in the market, meaning that a minimum of 10 x 12.5 is recommended as any smaller may cause your room to feel cramped and overcrowded. Check out the Puffy Lux California King Mattress.

Split King

Split King Size Mattress Dimensions: 76" x 80"

FAQ

When picking a mattress size, you should use the information above to ask yourself some key questions:

Which mattress size is best?

There is no set ‘best’ mattress size. Once you’re happy with the type of mattress you’ve chosen, finding the best mattress size for you is just a matter of considering what you’re looking for. Some factors to consider: the size of your bedroom, your sleeping position (you might like to curl up in bed, or stretch out, starfish style - we don’t judge!), and sleeping partners who share your bed with you. If you’re not sure about which mattress size is best for you, checking a bed sizes chart or mattress dimensions guide can help.

What is the biggest size of a bed?

Puffy’s biggest mattress size is a California king bed, which comes in at 72 inches wide, and 84 inches long.

Learn more about how to choose a mattress.

Is a full size bed big enough for two?

The short answer: no. Full size mattress dimensions permit a couple who share a bed about 27 inches of space each, so unless you’re planning on cozying up snugly through the night, this is likely going to be an uncomfortable sleeping experience in the long run. There is enough space if you’re sharing your bed with a smaller sleep partner, like your child or a pet.

What bed sizes do most couples have?

While there’s no set answer to this, the mattress size most couples opt for usually boils down to the size of their room. If you have a spacious master bedroom, then a king or California king-sized bed is going to provide you ample space, and a comfortable night’s sleep.

If you’re working with a smaller master bedroom, we advise sizing down to a queen size mattress, so that you aren’t left with a stuffy room.

Is a double bed too small for a couple?

Double beds are too small for couples who share a bed. Double beds and full size beds are actually interchangeable, and one term or the other is usually used more often depending on the area you’re in.

Both full-size and double beds come in at 54 inches in width and 75 inches in length. This gives couples who share a double bed just enough space to sleep close and cozy with each other, which can get disruptive if you have a partner who tosses and turns.

Double beds work best if you sleep alone or have a smaller bedroom, where space is limited.

What size bed should I get for my room?

The number one factor to take into consideration when purchasing a mattress is room size. If you’re thinking of getting a mattress for your child or teen’s bedroom, then twin, twin XL mattresses or standard mattress sizes are ideal.

Queen and king size mattresses are better for master bedrooms or if you share your bed with a partner. Full-sized mattresses are great if you’re looking for a comfortable night’s sleep without taking up too much space in your bedroom.

Measuring the size of your bedroom can help determine bed sizes. The recommended room size for a twin bed mattress comes in at around 7” by 10” feet. If you have a little more space and your room comes in at 10” by 12” feet, a full-size mattress is recommended. Queen and king mattresses have a recommended range of both 10” by 10” to 13” by 13” feet.

The best bed dimensions change depending on what you’re looking for. Finding a bed size you know you’ll be comfortable in and you can move around in is key to picking the right fit.

Does bed size affect marriage?

Your partner’s sleep and well-being are an obvious priority when you get married. While some couples prefer sleeping snugly and close together, others need their space to sleep comfortably.

If you have a partner who tosses, turns, or snores through the night, the motion isolation capabilities of a Puffy Memory Foam Mattress come in handy. If you do like to keep close, our mattresses also have climate-adaptive regulation that means both of you can stay cool all night.

Better sleep leads to our most balanced selves, and makes for happier, comfier couples!

Can you put a queen mattress on a full frame?

For the comfiest sleep possible, it’s always best to get a bed frame that matches the size of your mattress.

Queen size mattresses are larger than full size mattresses, so they won’t work on a full size bed frame either.

Can you make two twin beds into a king?

Pushing two twin size mattresses will leave you with a mattress that is five inches shorter than a King. Twin XL mattresses will work for this purpose since they’re just as long as a standard king.

You may wish to push two twin size mattresses together for a guest bedroom, or if you and your partner like to sleep in different positions at night.

What size sheets for two twin beds pushed together?

If you plan on pushing two twin size mattresses for your bed, it’s going to be difficult to find sheets that fit exactly right. A twin size bed comes in at 38 inches wide and 75 inches long, while a king size mattress is 76 inches wide, and 80 inches long.

Your best option is to use separate sets of sheets for the perfect fit. Alternatively, using two twin XL mattresses will allow you to use bedding made for king-size mattresses.

What are two twin beds equal to?

In terms of sizing, two twin beds pushed together 78 inches wide, and 75 inches long.

This is a little wider and shorter than a king size, which comes in at 76 inches wide, and 80 inches long.

How thick should a mattress be?

The best mattresses should be a minimum of 10 inches thick and can be up to 15 inches thick, depending on the type of mattress it is.

Since the thickness of a mattress is directly proportional to how many layers it has and can affect your comfort, Puffy mattresses are engineered with the coziest bed dimensions in mind.

The Puffy Cloud Mattress is 10” inches thick, our Puffy Lux Hybrid Mattress is 12” inches, and our Puffy Royal Hybrid Mattress comes in at 14” inches.

How high should a mattress be?

While most mattresses require a little bit of elevation to ensure air circulation and proper breathing, Puffy mattresses have been engineered to provide cool comfort even without a bed frame.

On average, most mattresses should be anywhere between 11” to 24” inches off the ground and range from 10” to 14” inches in thickness. Make sure you’re able to get on and off your bed with ease, so mornings aren’t harder than they should be!

How high should a bed be?

The best bed frames should permit you to get in and out with ease. Standard bed frames can range anywhere from 11” inches to 36” inches high, depending on your personal preferences and the way your mattress looks.

The Puffy Midnight Foundation sits at 15” inches of height, while the Puffy Serenity Adjustable Base is about 16” inches high. The Puffy Sterling Bed Frame is 17“ tall, providing a more luxurious feel.

Who is sleeping in the bed?

Certain bed sizes are suitable for certain people, based on your age, height, or relationship status.

What is your budget?

The price range from twin to Cal king can sometimes be a 100% increase. Without a doubt, this could very well be an important factor when making a purchase.

What are other considerations to keep in mind when buying a mattress?

Size is an important consideration, but the material of your mattress matters, too. Each type of mattress has different characteristics.

Two of the most popular mattress options on the market are memory foam and hybrid. A memory foam mattress is designed to provide targeted pressure relief by contouring to your body perfectly. On the other hand, a hybrid mattress offers the support of a traditional innerspring and the comfort of memory foam.
