You’ll need two long pieces that will run the length of your desired bed size (e.g. 75" for a twin, 80" for a full/double, 85" for a queen). Then cut 3-4 shorter pieces that will run width-wise, depending on the size of your bed (e.g. 3 pieces for a twin, 4 for a larger size). The width of your frame should match the width of your mattress. Use a circular saw or handsaw to make straight, even cuts.

2. Assemble the frame: Lay out the cut 2x4 pieces on a flat surface to form a rectangular frame. Use a carpenter’s square or measure diagonally from corner to corner to ensure the frame is square. You may need to trim or sand the edges after cutting for a snug fit.

5. Sand and finish: Use a sander or sandpaper to smooth any rough or splintered areas on the frame and platform boards. If desired, you can stain or paint the frame at this stage for a more polished look. I recommend a natural wood stain for a minimalist style. Let the stain or paint dry completely according to instructions before proceeding.

6. Attach the platform: With the frame lying flat, place the cut plywood or MDF platform on top, with the finished side facing up. Make sure it is centered with an even overhang on all sides. Secure the platform to the frame by drilling pilot holes and screwing through the bottom of the 2x4s and 1x4s up into the platform with 2.5" wood screws spaced every 6-8 inches.

7. Add finishing touches: With the platform secured, your minimalist bed frame is complete! You can customize it with your choice of finish, legs/feet, or a simple headboard if desired.
